Travel info

Good To Know

Everything you need to know before travelling to Tanzania.

Best time to visit Tanzania

June–October is the classic dry season with superb game viewing. January–March brings the calving season in the southern Serengeti. Kilimanjaro is best climbed in January–March and June–October.

Visas & entry

Most nationalities need a tourist visa (USD 50, or USD 100 for US passports). Apply online at the Tanzania e-visa portal or on arrival at Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar airports. Passport must be valid 6 months beyond entry.

Health & vaccinations

Yellow fever certificate is required only if arriving from an endemic country. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation is mandatory on all our trips.

Getting here

Fly into Kilimanjaro International (JRO) for northern safaris and treks, Julius Nyerere (DAR) for the south, or Abeid Amani Karume (ZNZ) for Zanzibar. We include all airport transfers.

Money & tipping

Tanzanian Shilling is local currency but USD is widely accepted. Cards work in cities; carry cash for parks and tips. Suggested tipping: $20–25/day for safari guides, $250–320 per trekker for the Kilimanjaro crew.

What to pack

Neutral-coloured layers, wide-brim hat, binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent and a soft duffel bag. Full kit lists for Kilimanjaro are sent after booking, and gear rental is available in Moshi.
